Psychiatric Evaluation

We will spend our first hour together doing a complete psychiatric evaluation (click here). Together we will explore you or your son’s symptoms, how they started, and how exactly they’ve been affecting you. Together we will understand you as a person, not just a bunch of symptoms. It may be hard.

BUT at the end, you will have a diagnosis. You will finally have an explanation for all the symptoms you’ve dealt with. You will come out the other side with tears of joy feeling relieved that you finally have answers. And a plan for treatment. This we promise you.

Medication Management

You or your son may have tried meds before. They didn’t have work. You had side effects. Your previous doctor put you on a med then checked 2 months later in a 15 minute appointment. It took them months to make one change you needed weeks ago. This will be different.

We have scoured the scientific studies to make sure we choose the best medication for you. We will check week by week to see how you respond. We may not even use medications if we decide that.

Because we’ll be working closely, you’ll get better faster because we’ll know exactly the right dose for you. You’ll know about any possible side effects and how to deal with them.

Integrative & Holistic Mental Health

Lab Studies

We’ve seen too many clients with bad Anxiety, Depression, or ADHD because they had an underlying thyroid, hormone, or nutritional problem.

We’ll order a complete set of blood work to make sure that doesn’t happen to you. There’s certain labs that no other doctor has checked for you before because they don’t know or its too much effort for them. But not here. We make sure you get the most thorough care possible.

Some clients want NO trace of mental health visits in insurance records. They don’t want it affecting their or their children’s future health insurance, disability insurance or life insurance. Or have mental health visits come up in future background checks, job checks (doctors, lawyers, military personel etc.) or school admissions.

For these select private clients, your treatment records will remain only between doctor and client - as it should be.

Next Day Appointment

Our patients do not wait weeks or months to see the psychiatrist when they’re struggling. They get appointments the very next day. We believe that when you have an issue, that we should address it immediately.

  • We’ll have follow-up visits discussing how your treatment is progressing and optimizing things like medication doses, supplementation based on your lab studies, genetic testing. We’ll continue your mental health coaching during these sessions.

  • We’ll track your symptoms at the beginning and throughout your treatment using Ivy League research scale so we can measure exactly how much benefit you’re getting.

  • Once we have your treatment system in place, we’ll make small tweaks to maintain it. At this stage you’ll be thriving with your mental health under control.

Follow-up Sessions:

Follow-up sessions will be either 25 or 50 minutes long depending on our goals together.

All lab readings, genetic testing readings, medication refills, doctor-patient communication, and extra forms will be included in the follow-up appointment cost.

  • Insurance companies limit the number of visits we can have, the medications we can use (only the cheap ones), and the length of visits (20 minutes). They also want all of your private information like your diagnosis and treatment notes, which I think should be private only between a doctor and their patient.

    This leads to very poor care, not the individualized treatment I believe most patients need.

    But I know cost can be a big factor for many patients. That’s why I will submit out-of-network claims for you so you get REIMBURSEMENT by your insurance towards your OON deductible.

  • Dr. Dhawan sees clients remotely living in New York, New Jersey, Indiana and Michigan at this time. If you live outside these states or are international, send us a message and we’ll see what we can do.

  • I currently do not treat patients with eating disorders or gender dysphoria. This is because my style of practice is best suited for cis-gender young teens and men. If you are are struggling with those concerns, I’d recommend searching on Psychologytoday.com to find a provider who specializes in these.

  • We only provide telepsychiatry services in my practice because it makes it easier for patients to get quality care from their own homes. It's great for people who live far away or have busy schedules, and it's just as effective as in-person care for many mental health conditions. I use secure video conferencing to protect patients' privacy, and it's a convenient and reliable option for everyone.

  • It depends on the goals we set in your initial evaluation. Generally for med management we’ll meet once a month, and for therapy/coaching once a week.

  • Totally fine. I will coordinate with your therapist to make sure we’re on the same page about your treatment.

  • Client privacy is a top priority at my practice. I use secure technology, limit access to patient records, and follow strict regulations to keep all personal and medical information confidential. This is another reason I don’t contract with insurance companies so they don’t have access to your records. They will remain only with me.

  • All of my private clients will get my number to contact me outside of appointments. :)
